An electric fan manufacturer is an entity that produces and sells electrical fans. These products are generally used in households to provide air circulation.

Early in the 1890s a maker called Eck and another named Roth made small fans that were designed to be mounted on a vertical surface like a wall. These were more suitable for a train or ship than for a house. Some of these had carbon brushes while others used open field winding.

Around 1903 Philip Diehl patented a sort of “Lollipop” oscillating fan that had a stick in front of the blade. He sold or leased this patent to a firm in Springfield Ohio that made fans under the name Robbins and Myers. R&M grew to be an important company making hoists, cranes and wenches that were used in factories.

About 1914 R&M was making fans for DEMC and perhaps other companies. By the late teens, R&M had begun to make its own brand of fans under the name Dayfan which they offered to department stores. Later Dayfan was acquired by Delco which was the American division of General Motors at that time.


The electric fan is a mechanical device that moves air or other gases. It is one of the most basic electric inventions, but it is essential for human comfort and in some industrial applications.
